Curriculum Enrichment

A World Class School Offering the British Curriculum

ECAs at DBSJP

The Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) programme at DBSJP inspires, extends and enriches the opportunities available to students through well-structured and engaging activities that enhance their development physically, academically, creatively, globally and socially.

In line with our school vision of ‘Enjoy, Aspire, Achieve’, the ECA programme is structured so that those willing and ready can access competitive-level opportunities, whilst providing a supportive framework for those students developing their skills:

  • Enjoy: clubs for enjoyment following a particular passion, or for trying new experiences.
  • Aspire: clubs for students not yet ready for competition level in a particular area
  • Achieve: clubs which are part of the school’s competitive programme

In addition to this, the structure of the programme is built around three core areas to ensure there is a balance in the offering:

  • Active: clubs to get the body moving
  • Creative: clubs to provide a platform for expression
  • Academic: clubs to challenge the mind

For example:

Enjoy Aspire Achieve
Active Ball Games Football Club Football Squad
Creative Drawing Club Sketching Skills World Art Dubai Team
Academic Story Time Book Club Chevron Readers’ Cup Team

Please note, the above are examples only and may not be clubs which run each term.

ECAs should be meaningful, enjoyable and challenging, with clear learning pathways and planned, focused tasks to accomplish. In primary, parents are invited into the final session of each term for a ‘Showcase’ so that students can proudly present their accomplishments.

Junior Dukes and Duke of Edinburgh at DBSJP

At DBSJP, students have the opportunity to broaden their horizons through the highly esteemed Junior Dukes and Duke of Edinburgh programme. Through the programme, students learn the value of service through their volunteer work whilst discovering and developing skills and passions in a range of areas, leading to a sense of deeply-engrained self-belief. The DBSJP DofE programme offers progressive opportunities for students from the age of 6, which are all underpinned by the following values:

  • I am empowering
  • I am inclusive
  • I have integrity
  • I am dynamic

These values truly align with our ethos at DBSJP, and we proudly support our students through the various levels of the programme each year.

Students can access the following areas of the programme through DBSJP:

  • Mini Dukes – Silver and Gold (up to age 7)
  • Junior Dukes Awards – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum (Up to age 11)
  • Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award (Aged 14+)
  • Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award (Aged 15+)
  • Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award (Aged 16+)

Completing the Junior Dukes and Duke of Edinburgh Awards offers students a life-changing experience and a recognized mark of achievement which is highly-valued by Universities and employers.

Trips

Defining moments occur when people are outside their comfort zone. We are proud to offer a wide range of educational trips to enrich student experiences and elevate learning beyond the classroom.

School trips align with the curriculum and give students an insight into the application of subjects in the real world. All trips are in accordance with strict health and safety guidelines which maintain safety, appropriate teacher-student ratios and risk assessment.

Some of our trips explore the wonderful features of the UAE giving students a taste of UAE culture. In addition to this we offer a selection of international trips. All students will have the opportunity to participate in a trip over the year.

In the year ahead, we are excited to see students travel to South Korea, Japan, Germany, South Africa, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka. All of these trips offer a different experience, and we believe that this adds to the cultural awareness of our students.

We also offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award for our students which will include an overnight hiking expedition.

Secondary trips for 2024/25 can been seen here

Safety and wellbeing

You child’s safety and wellbeing always come first. Risk assessments are conducted for all trips, and you will always know whom is responsible for your child’s care wherever they are. At our school we will have regular and well planned communications with parents, so you will always feel informed of your child’s whereabouts and security.
